Wireless Status v2

Writer's picture: Taylor GladTaylor Glad

Updated: Jan 15

A tool to communicate wireless issues with just 2 quick button pushes instead of typing into a chat or hollering on comms.

It messages between Stream Decks (XLs, Studios or just emulators) and sends messages to WaveTool Chat and TheatreChat.

Download the wireless status configuration files and read more details here:

I am in no way affiliated with Bitfocus, but if you appreciate their work you can donate to Bitfocus Companion here.

These configuration files each have about 43,000 total actions across all 99 pages, and use 126 custom variables. (I developed some scripting, so systemic changes for pages 1-92 take just under an hour instead of an entire month of tedious mouse-clicking. Thank goodness.)

This project is an update to the first version I built in 2022, inspired by some of Kyra Soko’s awesome work in TouchOSC. I had to redo the OSC messages after Companion changed the OSC addressing, which led me to look into other improvements.

I should also thank Carter Hammond for some feedback from using the first version on Legally Blonde Broadway tour.

Customization Ideas

  • Flash the corresponding rx/tx device when an error is reported (page 96 and 94)

    • (Already built into the Shure configuration files)

  • Trigger cue/solo on a console or other device from the channel selection buttons on page 99. Make the “Go To Overview” button on page 97 clear cue/solo.

  • Trigger backup mic failover whenever you report a mic error (page 96) and/or if someone else reports an error (page 94)

  • Flash other devices whenever you flash the chat (page 97)

  • Make triggers to alert specific team members/stations depending on the type of error reported (page 97)

  • Record each performer crying for help to be played on QLab any time an error is reported for that individual (page 94)

  • Trigger confetti and pyro whenever a wireless problem is resolved (page 97)
